London and Me
Yep, this time I am writing about London, a place I have been waiting to visit for a long time, and here we go, I am in one of the most important cities on earth at the moment.
It has been 4 days since I arrived in London, and I was pretty excited about it since I was going to be in a city that ruled the world for almost 200 years and is one of the most important financial hubs on the planet. For someone who is interested in finance and also interested in history, it was a big thing for me. But I guess because I had very high expectations, I somehow couldn't find what I was looking for. For sure it is a great city with lots of beautiful places and streets, plenty of green areas and small lakes. I visited Big Ben, Tower Bridge, the Tower of London, the City of London and the old financial centre, Buckingham Palace, LBS, and the British Museum, and now I am at the EBRD HQ in Canary Wharf, which is regarded as the new financial centre of London.
Lots of people are in suits here in London, and you can clearly see the white-collar work culture and the rush. I don't know, as someone who is going to graduate soon, it is somehow difficult for me to picture myself confined to certain limits and certain areas, rather than changing my environment and doing effective, large-scale work. But first you need to go through the earlier steps so that you can grow, learn and improve. I don't know, it somehow both frightens me and excites me when I imagine myself in their shoes. Yeah, I guess you can already see that the cloudy weather of London has affected me, hasn't it, haha. I am quite optimistic about the future anyway :)
As I said, right now I am at the EBRD headquarters. I have met a few people here and had 2 meetings. The EBRD building here is huge, I should confess.
What stayed with me during my London visit: we are each just one person within an industry of thousands, and yet we are all different and have different capabilities. Second, London is beautiful and I guess it needs more than 4 days to be discovered. Third, I missed Istanbul.
I really enjoyed my stay here and I met wonderful people — I want to thank them for their time. Selen Hanım, Meltem, Kübra, Matthew, James, Sung Ah Hanım and Arda Bey made this trip more special for me. I learned a lot in these 4 days. And I realised that I have a long way to go to learn more and develop more. I also need to stay aware of myself and stay alive both mentally and physically.
This was a short blog, as I only wanted to think out loud this time.
